Over the years, as campers began to age out of our summer programs for special needs children at Camp Lee Mar, families frequently shared their concerns with us about transition into adult life. The Camp Lee Mar L.I.F.E. Program was then created to prepare for job training, teach independent living skills AND still give access to all the great activities and special events at Camp Lee Mar!
After our campers moved through the L.I.F.E. Program our parents would ask us for additional opportunities to stay connected to Camp Lee Mar as their young adult started to navigate independent living opportunities and job coaching possibilities. Our parents saw the benefits of all the independent living skills taught during our summer programs for special needs children and they also saw the deep connections their son or daughter had to Camp Lee Mar and the many friendships they made during their time at Camp Lee Mar.
It became clear that we needed to find a way to continue the Camp Lee Mar connection for our Alumni campers. This is how Alumni week became part of the programming at Camp Lee Mar.
Our regular camp program runs for seven weeks, the last seven days of the summer program are always filled with special events, Special Olympics, spirit day show, Prom and many more events! These last seven days we could offer all the fun of Camp Lee Mar for our Alumni campers!
Although we would love to take ALL of our past camper alumni, we run at camper capacity each summer, so we needed to limit our camper alumni to recent Camp Lee Mar graduates. In doing so our Alumni had the opportunity to come back and spend time with other Alumni and visit with friends who may still be in the full Camp Lee Mar Summer Program.
For our older alumni who want to return to Camp Lee Mar, sometimes 10 or 15 years later, we offer opportunities to vacation at Camp Lee Mar with The Guided Tour. This opportunity combines the best of both worlds, an age appropriate adult vacation program held at their favorite summer camp! Many of our Alumni also go on to choose other amazing vacations with The Guided Tour! We have a Fall Weekend in the Pocono’s trip coming up at Camp Lee Mar in October that Ari and Lynsey will be running. We also have some exciting fall and holiday trips coming up at The Guided Tour’s Seashore program. These vacations are open to Camp Lee Mar seniors and Alumni, ages 18 and up!
