Specialists are hired for a variety of roles at Camp. Each specialist has their own workspace (Art Room, Science and Nature Center, etc.) which must be kept organized. Specialists are asked to plan a six week program for the summer. Campers typically have two sessions of each specific area per week. Although specialists will lead the activities, they are supported by counselors in each session. Specialists live in camper cabins, eat meals with their group, and are responsible for their campers’ safety and social and emotional well-being.
This position is perfect for special education Majors, looking to get hands-on experience, working under a Special Education teacher with more than 40 years of experience working at Camp Lee Mar. Our Academics Specialists teach traditional classes that are aligned to campers individual educational goals, in addition to classes with an emphasis on vocational job training. Academic Specialists are available to get in-person teaching hours signed off at the discretion of their individual program.
