Does Camp Lee Mar offer ABA Camp Programs?
Many of our campers have taken part in ABA programs as part of early intervention or school programs. ABA school based programs and ABA camp programs can provide great structure for learning social and emotional skills. Finding a camp program that can continue to develop these skills throughout the summer can be a challenge.
Without a good summer program the summer can be a very overwhelming time for families with children who have special needs. The long relaxing summer days are hard to fill when the structure of the school year has ended. Although it is nice to slow down a little, the lack of daily structure can create anxiety in some children. Additionally, for some children, they lose their primary social outlet and the opportunity to practice and generalize vital social skills that they have been developing over the school year. Parents often share that they feel they cannot provide enough during the summer, or that they are constantly running trying to fill their child’s day with fun-filled social experiences.
Although we do not offer ABA at Camp Lee Mar as part of the camp program, what we do offer is an amazing opportunity to generalize skills learned in ABA in a natural learning environment. We are happy to review your child’s goals and speak with their BCBA to determine how best to assist in generalizing social, emotional and academic skills within our structured program. Camp Lee Mar offers:
- A high staff to camper ratio so that we can model and guide camper interactions as they occur naturally throughout the day, providing support and direction across all settings.
- We focus on building on our campers’ social skills, emotional skills, academics skills, and daily living skills step-by-step, providing support and reinforcement throughout our structured program.
- Our program is very structured, intensive and fun! Our campers participate in a 7-week residential summer program aimed at increasing social, emotional and daily living skills. Our parents often feel that their camper learns more in their 7-week residential experience at Camp Lee Mar than they do during the entire school year.
We feel Camp Lee Mar has such a growth producing impact for our campers, because they are in an environment where they are just like everyone else. At Camp Lee Mar we build strong self-confidence, and our campers make lifelong friendships. When our campers are having so much fun it is easy to generalize emerging skills and build new ones!
