As campers begin to reach transition age (18 to 21), families frequently share their concerns with us about transition into adult life. The CLM L.I.F.E. Program was created to prepare for job training, teach independent living skills and give access to all the great activities and special events we offer at camp!
The L.I.F.E. Program is designed for veteran campers who are ready to build upon previously mastered independent living skills. Campers enrolled in the L.I.F.E Program are able to practice functional living skills in a safe, supervised setting. The L.I.F.E. Program builds on Lee Mar’s educational program and the previous skills campers have gained within our Academics and Vocational and Occupational Job Training Programs. In addition, our L.I.F.E Program also builds on the social skills and interview skills developed in our Speech Program.
To be eligible for the CLM L.I.F.E. Program, participants must be at least 18 years old and have been a Lee Mar camper for at least one season.
Participants in the L.I.F.E. Program live in small, private cabins, each sleeping up to three campers and one counselor. This unique living set up allows for campers to have many opportunities for incidental learning in their own living spaces. The L.I.F.E. Program also has a full apartment with a large kitchen, washer and dryer, two bathrooms, a living room, and a classroom that are used for functional education and “hands-on” experience. Campers in the L.I.F.E. program follow a similar and familiar style schedule to the rest of camp with a few special perks.
While participating in the L.I.F.E Program, campers will receive small group instruction with hands-on opportunities in areas of: Community Living Skills, Vocational/ Job Skills, Independent Living Skills, and Social Skills.
